From the Orillia Packet and Times: John Ross had some of his paintings for sale, too, but the artist also took a different approach this year, collaborating with friend Mat Martel. Manticore Books was not on the list of venues for Saturday's event, but you wouldn't have known it, going by the crowds that gathered inside and on the front step to watch Ross's and Martel's multimedia show, A Human Solution. Inspired by an album by the band Anathema, Ross created paintings in Photoshop, which were complemented by animation by Martel and the sounds of Anathema. "I don't think Orillia has ever seen something like this," Ross said as people watched the display on a projector screen. "This is so modern in the sense that it's current technology and current forms of art. You never see that in a festival like this." While many artists were hoping to sell their work, A Human Solution was more of a statement than a sales pitch. A recent art piece undertaken by myself and John Ross.
